“Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There’s a crack in everything

That’s how the light gets in”

– Leonard Cohen

Dear friends, artists, lovers,

Along with the artists I practice with, I want to say thank you for supporting a community that is built on speaking up and out, revealing the cracks, searching for the bells that still can be rung and steeping in the resonance.

We’ve made it here together. To the end of a year I’d like to think was full of lessons still revealing themselves, still unravelling. A year of transition, of movement in many directions, sometimes tiny, almost impercetible. We are learning how to keep going together, as well as understand how to best provide creative services in our local and global communities.

Art still matters, regardless of what those in power may project. We will still get together, we will still make and breathe and dance close, won’t we? We must. As a small, independently run entity in a field of people that know how to do a lot with a little, here are some ways I reached both in and out this past year.

In 2016, I aimed to connect with new and different populations, making smaller works and forging new conversations and collaborations. I created a suite of new performance work with Latin alternative folk band Cuñao and cuerva urban folklorico. I spent time connecting with diverse artists in various disciplines who identify as Jewish through Asylum Arts, American Jewish University’s Center for Jewish Creativity and currently, as an Artist-in-Residence with Los Angeles Yiddishkayt’s HELIX Project . In the Summer, I started a three year journey towards a teaching certification in Open Source Forms with Stephanie Skura.

Much of this creative R & D will make its way to you and others, taking shape in the new year.
I will be asking for your support along the way.
It  is also my wish to listen to your wisdom and needs in the coming months.
